We investigated the rate and predictors of ineffective HIV protection (i.e. incorrect PrEP adherence and no condom use) in the CohMSM-PrEP study. Participants were MSM, 18 years or older, and at high risk of HIV infection. They received a comprehensive sexual health prevention package, including PrEP, in community-based clinics in Mali, Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, and Togo. From socio-behavioral/clinical data, HIV protection at most recent anal intercourse with a male partner was categorized as effective or ineffective. Then, predictors of ineffective HIV protection were measured.
