As part of their pedagogical activities using information and communication technology in education (ICTE), SESSTIM members have developed a number of pedagogical innovations.
Among these, interactive videos allow us to offer students an adaptive and personalised educational pathway enriched with a variety of pedagogical elements. These videos can contain additional animations and interactive components that authorise the viewing of video sequences based on the student’s level of knowledge and skills (e.g., quizzes, statistical training using R software). Different types of interaction are possible (see Info on interactive videos).
In view of the complexity of creating interactive videos, we developed a model to assist professors, accompanied by an educational engineer, in the elaboration and graphic representation of e-learning scenarios.
The use of interactive videos adapted to the student’s level is a new and innovative concept that meets the expectations of both professor and student. Our work is a step forward in facilitating the creation of this type of videos. It provides an e-learning tool and models that allow for the production of personalised learning media.
The interactive video project was initiated as part of our “Mediterranean South e-Master of Public Health project” (A*Midex grant). This concept was included, along with our educational, pedagogical and organisational models, in the project “Dessine ton PaRcours vers la REussite à Aix-Marseille Université” (DREAM-U). DREAM-U was won by Aix-Marseille University as part of the “Nouveaux Cursus à l’Université” call for projects (funded by ANR - PIA3) and is now being implemented throughout the University.
