FILOQUALI
Understanding the drivers and barriers to participation in the FILOmene cohort: a qualitative study – FILOQUALI
The objectives of the FILOQUALI project are as follows :
1) To analyse social variations in discourse regarding the conditions for participating in a cohort such as FILOMENE, and more broadly regarding trust in scientific research, concerns about environmental health risks, and trust in the processing of personal data by a third party such as Inserm
2) Identify the specific drivers (benefits that could be offered to future participants) and barriers (methods of biological data collection, digital access, etc.) to participation in the FILOMENE cohort, by analysing how these drivers and barriers vary, particularly according to social background and socio-economic status
3) Test different incentives, methods and tools for data collection with participants

Socioeconomically disadvantaged and vulnerable populations are underrepresented in pediatric cohorts, even though they and their children are the most exposed to environmental and social health inequalities. The FILOQUALI project aims to identify the facilitators and barriers to engagement in a pediatric cohort, while analyzing how these differ according to individuals’ social background or socioeconomic status. Greater inclusion of these populations will help improve the prevention and management of pediatric cancers.
- Exploratory interviews with participants in existing cohorts (Elfe, Epipage, Sepages) (n = 10).
- Semi-structured interviews with women and men of childbearing age who could be potential future participants in the cohort (n = 50).
- Focus groups with parents or prospective parents participating in the FILOMENE cohort
This project will help to better identify the barriers and drivers of participation in paediatric cohorts, particularly for populations that are vulnerable both socially and in terms of health. It will help to improve the inclusion of these populations, who are most affected by pollution and environmental inequalities, yet are under-represented in epidemiological studies.
The expected outcomes are, on the one hand, empirical in nature, providing insights into engagement within paediatric cohorts as applied to the post-Covid context in France, and, on the other hand, the formulation of practical recommendations for the establishment of the future FILOMENE cohort.
