Tutoring Charter* : Tasks and activities of the tutor
Tutors are resource persons who assist distance-learning students on the teaching platform, thereby complementing the work of the teaching staff. A tutor is assigned to support a group of students (up to 15) in a teaching unit.
1. Initial tutoring
The tutor makes contact with the group at the beginning of the academic year:
- The tutor introduces himself/herself and his/her role,
- The tutor presents the available resources (computer-mediated courses, support resources, communication tools, knowledge tests, etc.),
- The tutor sets up a tutoring schedule
- contacts (forums, e-mails, etc.),
- definition of intermediate assignments (exercises) to be submitted (and in what form),
- continuous testing for module validation (modalities, dates).
- contacts (forums, e-mails, etc.),
This initial tutoring is intended to create the optimal conditions for accompanied distance learning.
2. Tutoring during the academic year
During the academic year, the tutor guides, assists and coordinates students:
- The tutor ensures that the schedule is respected. In particular, he/she promptly contacts students who fail to log on or to submit assignments.
- The tutor acts as a content expert. He/she provides students with documentation, helps them locate the best references and assists them in understanding the course material.
- The tutor listens to students and answers their questions in a timely manner.
- The tutor suggests and corrects course assignments and exercises.
- The tutor guides the work of student pairs and groups.
- The tutor ensures that students develop a high level of autonomy, helps them understand work instructions, encourages and even organizes collaborative learning, and facilitates exchanges between students.
- The tutor provides technical support to students as needed.
3. Evaluation
During the academic year
- The tutor discusses with the student about the difficulties he/she encounters and suggests solutions. In particular, the tutor can modify a student’s individualised pathway by adding knowledge blocks to the platform and/or proposing complementary learning activities.
- Evaluations are conducted on a regular basis (see above) to check whether intermediate objectives have been achieved. They can be performed using the multiple-choice questionnaires found at the end of certain chapters. Evaluation results are discussed between student and tutor if necessary.
At the end of the module
The tutor helps to organise the final evaluation.
